چکیده

Left ventricular (LV) diastolic dysfunction induces the increase of LV diastolic pressure and subsequently of left atrial and pulmonary capillary pressures independent of systolic function, resulting in the onset of heart failure. In the early 1990s, several clinical studies demonstrated that diastolic dysfunction is an independent prognostic factor in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (EF).1,2 In the past decade, many clinical studies have clarified that heart failure with preserved EF (HFPEF) accounts for 40% of heart failure and that its prognosis is as poor as heart failure with reduced EF.3 With the growing interest in HFPEF, the important role of diastolic dysfunction in the pathogenesis of heart failure has been realized again, because it is plausible that LV diastolic dysfunction is one of the principal causes for this phenotype of heart failure.4

Diastolic left ventricular functional indices: Comparison between gated myocardial perfusion SPECT and echocardiography

Introduction: Many patients have only diastolic dysfunction without any abnormality in systolic function. We compared cardiac diastolic parameters obtained by gated myocardial perfusion SPECT (Gated SPECT) with those evaluated by echocardiography. Methods: Forty-nine patients (aged 37-85 years, 19 males and 30 women) underwent Gated SPECT and echocardiogr...

Comparison of Cardiac Function in Young Patients with Thalassemia Intermedia and Healthy Individuals Using Echocardiography Method

Background: Cardiac dysfunction due to chronic anemia and hemosiderosis are the major causes of death among patients with thalassemia intermedia. This study was performed to compare the cardiac function in thalassemia intermedia patients with normal subjects by means of echocardiography. Materials and Methods: This was a case-control study performed on 22 patients affected by thalassemia int...

Load-sensitive diastolic relaxation in hypertrophied left ventricles.

We studied effects of enalaprilat and L-158,809, an angiotensin II type-1 receptor antagonist, on left ventricular (LV) diastolic relaxation in 11 normal control dogs and 16 LV hypertrophied (LVH) dogs with perinephritic hypertension. At baseline, LV systolic and end-diastolic pressures and end-systolic elastance were increased in the LVH group (all P < 0.01 vs. the control group). LV relaxatio...

Doppler-Derived Myocardial Performance Index in Healthy Children in Shiraz

Background: Assessment of myocardial function is essential in heart disease, but in regard to systolic and diastolic functions such evaluation has limitation. Ejection fraction is difficult to assess in abnormally-shaped ventricles, and diastolic inflow velocity pattern may be fused because of tachycardia. Objective: A myocardial performance index (MPI) or Tei index has been developed for adult...

Evaluation of Cardiac Function in Patients with Thalassemia Intermedia

Abstract Background Thalassemia intermedia is a variety of beta thalassemia which shows clinical symptoms somewhere between asymptomatic carriers and thalassemia major. Cardiac dysfunctions due to chronic anemia and hemosiderosis are the major causes of death in these patients. The purpose of this study is to evaluate cardiac function in these patients by echocardiography. Materials and Met...
